Assignment Goal: This exercise is designed for students to learn how to create IF functions and use conditional formatting to better visualize data trends.

Weekly Outcomes: At the completion of this week’s assignment, students will have two new columns reflecting “Gains” and “Losses” based on each month’s open and close values.

Weekly Topics/Tasks: IF Function and Conditional Formatting

Create an IF function to determine if each month saw a “Gain” or “Loss” in value (in both years)

Set up the test as [Close Value – Open Value > 0], if true “Gain”, if false “Loss”
Copy the formula to each month by dragging the bottom right corner of the cell down

Set up conditional formatting for these cells

Red fill with dark red text for “Loss”
Green fill with dark green text for “Gain”
